What is Feng Shui?

Feng Shui means wind and water in Chinese. It’s based on the fact that there is life force energy in every being - called chi (or qi). When we have a balanced amount of life force energy, everything flows smoothly; when we don’t have enough of it, things start to be deficient, decay or possibly die; when we have too much of it, people start feeling overwhelmed, and accidents tend to happen due to the instability in energy. Essentially, good Feng Shui occurs when the energy in a space flows smoothly without obstruction.

The concept of Feng Shui is actually much broader than the layout of your home or geographical location - Feng Shui is not only about the energy of the building, but also about how our energy interacts with the energy of the building. For example, you can live in a building with excellent energy, but if it’s very inconvenient or makes you feel uncomfortable in any way - then it automatically becomes bad Feng Shui. The continuity of design and energy is key.

How can you tell if you have good Feng Shui or bad Feng Shui?

Good Feng Shui is known to bring about happiness, harmonious relationships, good health, prosperity and success. On the other hand, bad Feng Shui can result in conflicts, obstacles, stress, poor health, financial trouble, or even accidents. Have you ever heard someone say that things started going a lot smoother after they moved into their new home? That might be good Feng Shui at play!

Why is it important to Feng Shui your home?

Our bodies are naturally designed to absorb the chi from the environment around us. The more time we spend in a certain space or environment, the more of its energy builds up within us. Now that we are all spending more time in our homes, the Feng Shui of where we live affects us a lot more than when we were out and about most of the day. This is why it’s important to optimize our Feng Shui by working with what we have, and make our living environment as comfortable and as functional as possible.
